Show Guidelines
- Any exhibitor 21 years of age or under is eligible to show.
- All swine must be blood tested PRV and Brucellosis negative within 30 days of the show and have an official health certificate. All out-of-state swine must have a prior permit number on the health certificate.
- Entries are open to Georgia residents ONLY. A Barrow show (including market barrows and purebred barrows with registration certificates), market gilts, registered gilts, and commercial gilts are eligible. No boars! Market barrows and market gilts will be shown separately by weight. Purebred gilts with registration certificates will be shown by breed and by age. Purebred barrows will be shown by weight and go back to compete with market barrows for overall barrow. Commercial gilts will be shown by weight and if there are not enough entries, commercial gilts will be shown in market classes. Hogs cannot be shown as both breeding gilt and a market hog.
- The barn will open at 3p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020. All market hogs, purebred barrows and commercial gilts must be weighed and registered gilts must be checked in by 8:00 p.m. that same day.
- There is no limit to the number of entries per exhibitor.
- Prize money will be paid to the top 10 in each class. Contingent on number of entries and sponsors, proposed payouts will be 1st - $40, 2nd - $35, 3rd - $30, 4th - $25, 5th - $20 6th-10th - $10.00
- All entries must be postmarked or submitted online by September 14, 2020. The entry fee is $20.00 per pig. A late fee of $20.00 per head will be required after this date. The committee reserves the right to refund money to entries if the number of entries exceeds pen space. All entries can be processed online or mailed to Teri Tankersley 5243 Nowhere Rd. Nicholson, Ga 30565. Entry fees cannot be switched from one exhibitor to another. The late fee will be strictly enforced. No refunds on entry fees will be given unless the show has to be cancelled per Government order. We will not accept entries at the show. - Pigs do not have to be entered at the Ga. National Fair to enter this show, however please be mindful of the ownership rule outlined by the Georgia National Fair.
- Market Hog Show: Barrows and gilts will show separately. Divisions in the barrow and gilt market hog shows will be divided evenly among the classes, as far as possible. The purebred barrow division will consist of classes for Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire and Other Breeds. All purebred barrows must be registered with a proper registration certificate from the National Swine Registry for their respective breed. There must be 6 entries to hold a class. If there is not, the purebred barrow will be placed in Other Breeds. If there are not enough entries for a purebred division, they will show as crossbred market barrows. Division winners will compete for Grand Champion honors. The judge will select Grand and Reserve Champions for the barrow show and the gilt show. All market hog entries must have a clean, readable ear tag in place. Pigs must be tagged before check in.
- Registered and Commercial Breeding Gilt Show: All gilts must be registered with a proper registration certificate from the National Swine Registry for their respective breed. Purebred entries must show the exhibitor’s name or exhibitor’s family farm as the current owner on the registration paper. Registered breeding gilts do not have to have ear tags but must be ear notched according to their registration certificate. Entries must be farrowed in February, March, or April 2020. A minimum of 6 head will be required to hold a breed show. If there are less than 6 head of a breed, they will be shown as All Other Breeds. Breed Champions and Reserve Champions will be chosen for each breed. A Supreme Overall Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion Breeding Gilt will be chosen.
- Due to expenses charged to The Ring of Dreams show committee for the facility, we must charge a penning fee to exhibitors to defray expenses to the show management. The pen fee is $10.00 per pen. Please indicate on entry forms who you will share a pen with or special penning request. We will do our best to honor your request. Please do not place items in pens not paid for. The facility charges per pen used and if you set up a tack pen or bag chairs in an empty pen you will be asked to pay the pen fee for the pen you used. We will do our best to have pens clearly marked that are not to be used. There may be pens that are left empty between families for social distancing and health precautions.
- Showing from the trailer will be permitted. Premium reserved spots directly next to the penning area of the new livestock facility will be sold for $25 each. They are outside with no cover overhead. There are a limited number of approximately 20 spaces. There will be free trailer parking further from the barn.
- Showmanship: Showmanship will begin at 8:30am on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Exhibitors must pay a $15.00 entry fee for showmanship. Classes will be broken down by the exhibitors’ grade level PeeWee, 1st through 12th grade, and a college level. Showmanship will be shown from the youngest to oldest and broken into heats according to the number of entries. There will be cash payout for showmanship classes, and placings through 10th place in each grade level final drive.
- Weighing, all pigs must come to the scales to be weighed in. Purebred breeding gilts do not require weighing; we will need to see your registration papers. Purebred barrows will require both registration papers and weighing in. Any issues regarding the scales or the weighing process must be brought to the show officials prior to the end of check-in, after that time no issues regarding the weighing process will be addressed.
- The rules committee reserves the right to interpret all rules. Decision of the judge and the rules committee will be final.
No alcoholic beverages permitted on show grounds! Smoking, dipping, chewing, or spitting allowed there is a designated smoking area located outside the facility.
Children must be supervised at all times. There is no “horseplay” type of behavior permitted in the facility.

The health and safety of our exhibitors and families are of the utmost concern. Please help us all stay safe by observing the following guidelines:
- IF YOU HAVE A COUGH OR HIGH FEVER OR ARE CONSIDERED HIGH RISK, DO NOT ENTER THE FACILITY.
- WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN. • MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING – 6 FEET.
- TAKE IT TO THE TRASH – please be personally responsible for disposing of all items you touch (tissues, paper towels, beverage cans, etc.).
- WE ENCOURAGE ALL PARTICIPANTS TO FOLLOW CURRENT HEALTH GUIDELINES.
INDEMNITY AND HOLD HARMLESS: By submitting your entry form all parties hereby agrees to DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS, to the fullest extent permitted by law, the RELEASES from losses, liabilities, obligations, claims, damages, settlements, injunctions, suits, actions, proceedings, demands, charges, fines, penalties, costs and expenses of every kind and nature, including reasonable fees, expenses and disbursements of attorneys, accountants and other professionals imposed upon, asserted against or incurred by any RELEASEE in connection with, arising out of or relating to (i) any Released Claim or (ii) the Activities, in each of (i) and (ii), whether caused by illness, or the ordinary negligence of the RELEASES or otherwise and including and/or arising out of improper and/or tortious conduct in connection therewith.
